Oscars 2014: The Look

Obviously there are lots of things to talk about when it comes to this years Oscars award show. Everything from Ellen as the best host I've ever seen to the missing portion of Pharrells tuxedo pants. However, in light of this being a beauty blog here are a few of my favorite looks.

1.) Margot Robbie: Do I prefer her in blonde curls and a soft pink link? Maybe...but Talk about some gorgeous chocolate locks! Both the style and the color were complimented by the choice of wine/plum lipstick, minimal eye make-up and smokin' hot brows.
Looking for a similar lipstick? Check out Rebel by MAC with a deep plum liner.

2.) Lupita Nyong'o: I don't even know where to begin. My twitter feed blew up in regard to how stunning she was last night.
Her skin was absolutely flawless with a gold glow and perfectly placed blush.
On topic of hair, there was much talk about the style. Would the look have been more put together sans the headband? In my opinion, I really liked the accent that it gave to her hair and the post earrings she wore.

3.) Emma Watson
Maybe Im just in love with a focus on skin but between that and her scarlett lip color in a sea of neutral Emma Watson rounds out my top three picks for favorite looks of the 2014 Oscars

TSA Friendly Travel

On my most recent trip out of town, several TSA agents identified me as an efficient and organized packer. Needless to say I totally took this as a compliment as my husband just thinks I'm growing into OCD patterns lol.
I realize that this is not my only blog post about travel and packing but it just keeps getting more and more smooth (as smooth as going in and out of security checks can be.)
even when I have to fly with my dog Tucker. So I must be doing something right...right?!

First of all I typically never check a bag unless I will staying at my destination for more than 4-5 days and dependant on the situation...but typically I only carry what can fit into my purse and carry on bag.
The key to smooth travels is organization!
At a very young age my mom always called me the "bag lady" I had/have bags that go in bags that go in bags. Everything has an order, which is my I LOVE my zuca pro
The dimensions of this bag make it perfect for flying.
The specs of the bag are:• 4” light weight polyurethane wheels absorb shock and
make for a seriously silent ride. And, because the wheels are
recessed, the case meets FAA specifications for carry-on baggage

• A gear platform to carry additional loads

• Feet, made of nylon 6, go easy on scratchable surfaces

• Chrome plated, rust resistant screws

• Dimensions: 19.5” height, 10” width, 13.5” depth

• Weight (frame and bag): 9.3 lbs

• Weight (with accessories):12 lbs

Features about the bag that make it a perfect carry on:

Next, my "purse" is tricky it's huge. It's a destined for greatness yoga bag from lululemon and the size and fit is awesome!
Not so great for everyday use because if you pack this guy full you will literally dislocate your shoulder. It's like Mary Poppins bag. It just goes and goes....and goes.

Here are some photos of me, my zuca and lululemon bag from my most recent flight.
Here is a list of all the items I was able to carry:
I wore my bulky items ; jacket and big boots.
I slid a pair of Toms shoes down in the side of the zuca and packed a pair of Sam Eldelman heels for dinner or going out.
3 sweaters bulky .3 tops. Tank tops. Pajamas, 2 pairs of jeans, heels yoga pants and 2 sheer dressy

In my lululemon bag I packed all of my makeup my MU brushes, clarisonic, toothbrush, hair straightner and hair brush. Daily bag ( tide to go pen. Wet wipes, Advil, lip balm touch up stuff.)
My iPad charger headphones contact case glasses sunglasses and a small purse for when I'm out and about so that I'm not carrying a bunch of junk with me.
Scarf, poncho, umbrella, gloves and winter hat...(forecast for cold wet weather)
So functional and easy to get to.

Mixing patterns and color blocking

One of my favorite things about this seasons trend is color blocking, and the ability to mix patterns!
The concept is so fun and it really allows you to dig deep into your closet and throw a super cute and FUN outfit together!
I love to draw inspiration from my favorite eras and ideas from fashion icons of their time!
This week I'm back home visiting east Tennessee and not only are the views breathtaking but weather is spectacular!
So my outfit of the day is exactly this:
A cute pair of high waisted pleated front shorts that are color blocked a light blue and ivory. Then I paired it with a tight tank (bright coral-pink) tucked in and to tie the look together I added a snake skin belt. Love.
Of course i added a pair of sweet little juicy couture earrings, my favorite watch and a cute owl necklace(my vintage find)
Throw on my cork and beige wedges and I'm ready!
oh and I changed my color color from brunette to blonde.
The color bug got me good- I am in love with my color for this summer

On-the-go Jewelry

Traveling again this weekend, and again I find myself blogging about great travel ideas :)
This time its for your jewelry and accessories--When I pack a bag I really never know what I will end up wearing or how I want the outfit to look. Nothing is worse that trying to find something to cram all of your jewelry into, worry about everything getting tangled up and then loosing half of it!
I found a CHEAP alternative and awesome idea.. by accident. I went to Hobby Lobby and was checking out the scrapbooking section. They carry a brand called Paper Studios. I saw this super cute little zebra print case with plastic inserts all different sizes and they zip!
I can put bracelets, watches, earring, everything in this cute little organizational bag. Here are some pictures of how I carry my jewelry! Its not bulky even with chunky necklaces and things. Best thing I have seen by far for traveling with jewelry.

Travel Savy

I think it may just be me, but when I travel I like to think I'm packing efficiently. The worssssttt is sweating, lugging a huge bag through the airport and all of your stuff is bulging out the sides, dropping shoes you managed to stuff in pockets (thanks to the zuca I no longer have that issue!)
Now packing.,. I hate to over pack, but i like to make sure I give myself some options and throw a couple extras in there. For me, make-up and beauty products are the hardest to choose from(when I post some storage collection photos of my make up you will totally understand)
A couple years ago I found out about Zuca. Between that and my lulu lemon purse, im good to go!
This bag has revolutionized the way I travel so much to the point that I bought the backpack and I even have a separate one I keep my freelance make up kit in
. This bag has stackable compartment and it opens like a locker and then you have almost like dresser drawers.
The bags come in mesh(clothes and shoes) and plastic( I keep my make up and shower gel, perfume lotion ect)
If you have a spill, simply get a wet wipe and clean up is easy.
---what make-up do I take??!
Here are some pictures
basically everyday products( and your talking to a make-up junkie here, so for me this is basics)
-I take the urban decay naked palette almost every travel trip. The packaging makes it less likely the crack and destroy all of your shadow leaving your crying over them for days.
-Next a paint pot from MAC usually painterly
And maybe a quad of shadows if I'm feelin frisky.
-Basic black pencil liner ( for me its "black black chromographic pencil"
-Lash primer, mascara and a lash curler
-lotion to keep my skin hydrated and either a beauty balm or MAC fortified skin enhancer (serves as a primer to keep foundation lasting and a 35SPF!
-this trip I'm using MAC mineralize
Satinfinish liquid foundation (very sheer light weight, quick and easy applied with like duo fibre brush I.e
-MAC #187
-followed by a lightweight concealer this trip it's MAC mineralize concealer
-If I use powder i grab a transparent setting power
Next, snookie's favorite beauty product, BRONZER!
-I'm obsessed with nars laguna or maybe refined golden by MAC
-then of course Blush. I can't live without it... I think I packed springsheen by.. You guessed it. MAC.
-newest product I have been using us Nars copacabana illuminator -- talk about GORGEOUS! Holy Cow people stop and want to know what's on my skin when I use this!
-most importantly Brows, I have a shadow and an angled brush and Mac lingering brow pencil
***beauty tip:
Brows are so important an often neglected. Simply filling your brow in, (not like the old lady penciled in eyebrows) but lightly filled in can make the biggest difference!
Try it! Brows frame your entire face, not just your eyes.
- and lastly the Lippie : )
This trip I packed MAC etcetera prolong wear liner cause I hate touching up, followed by Angel and Nars Turkish delight lip gloss
Then I carry my handy little brush roll and it protects all my brushes.
Hope you have fun on your next adventure : ) pack "efficiently"
